JCUSA Sport Hold Inaugural Women's Rugby 7s Carnival

On Saturday, JCUSA Sport hosted their first ever Women's Rugby 7s Carnival at the Joe Baker Field in Townsville.

Not only was this competition a preparation for our JCU side to compete at UniSport Nationals Div 1 next month, the event is to also help with the development of University Sport in North/Central Queensland and to also support regional sport across.

The 5-team competition featured our JCU side, Central Queensland University (CQUni), FNQ Rugby from Cairns, a combined Townsville team called 7Nations and North Ward who were a last minute inclusion after the late withdrawal of the Army.

It was a successful event at JCU with our women's side winning the competition however the competition was well received by the teams, players, coaches and officials which could see the competition return on a annual basis.

A big thank you to the following people who have helped organise the competition:

  • Campbell Yates - JCU
  • Melissa LeBlanc - FNQ Rugby
  • Lucy Stafford - Central Queensland University

  • Alyssa Stone - North Ward
  • Hannah Aisa - 7Nations

Also a massive thank you to the TDRU Referees Association for organising the referees as well as the JCU Rugby Union Club who ran the canteen and the sidelines throughout the day.
