JCUSA Student Council

The James Cook University Student Association, commonly known as JCUSA, is the student representative body at JCU.

JCUSA is governed by a Student Council made up of elected student representatives. We represent student interests, raise collective issues affecting students, support student participation and oversee JCUSA’s responsibilities, including affiliated Clubs and Societies.

You do not need to understand JCUSA’s structure before contacting us. If you are unsure where your question belongs, get in touch and we will help point you in the right direction.

The Student Council is the governing authority of JCUSA. It oversees JCUSA’s governance, representation, priorities and responsibilities.

Councillors communicate with students, raise matters affecting their campuses, cohorts and portfolios, take part in Council decisions and help ensure that JCUSA performs its functions properly.

You can contact the Student Council about:

• a collective issue affecting students

• an idea or concern you would like raised with JCU

• student consultation or representation

• an issue affecting your campus or student cohort

• JCUSA elections, meetings or participation opportunities

• an affiliated Club or Society

• JCUSA decisions, statements or governance

How JCUSA works with JCU and JCU UniLife

JCUSA works closely with JCU and JCU UniLife, but each organisation has a different role.

JCUSA represents students. Through the Student Council, we raise student concerns, contribute student perspectives to University discussions and oversee JCUSA’s governance and responsibilities.

JCU UniLife delivers a range of student services and provides administrative and operational support to JCUSA. This includes individual student advocacy, sport and recreation, gym operations, events and administrative support for Clubs and Societies.

JCUSA works with JCU on matters affecting students across the University. This may include taking part in consultations, raising collective concerns, contributing to committees and providing feedback on decisions that affect the student experience.

Working together does not make JCUSA part of JCU or JCU UniLife. JCUSA remains the independent student representative body, governed by the Student Council.

JCUSA exists to represent JCU students and advance their interests and welfare. We provide students with ways to raise concerns, share ideas, participate in decisions and contribute to university life.

JCUSA also supports affiliated Clubs and Societies, student participation, communication between students and the University, and educational, social and cultural activities.
