Townsville

Social Sport
JCUSA Sport offers Social Sport every semester over a ten week period (weather permitting).  Social Sport begins in week three of each semester.  Beach volleyball (6-a-side) is one 5 sports offered to students on the Townsville Campus.  Beach volleyball is also part of the rounders competition where students play a different sport each week. 

Social Sport co-ed (mixed competition) and is also open the general public (along with students). 

Beach Volleyball Social Sport will begin on Monday March 4 in semester 1 with Social Sport in Semester 2 to begin on Monday August 5.

Winna Shield
Winna Shield is a year long inter-college sporting competition in Townsville for JCU residential college students.  It comprises of 9 sports; and is the ultimate case for bragging rights on campus!  Beach Volleyball is one of 9 sports held during the Winna Shield calendar with the event having a men’s and women’s competition (both competitions are 6-a-side). 

The beach volleyball event will be held over two weeks with the event beginning on Tuesday September 17.

Facilities
The Townsville Campus has two sand courts to play beach volleyball.  These courts are free to use for Student Association + (SA+) members throughout the semester from 6am-4pm Monday – Friday.  For casual bookings, call the JCUSA Fitness Centre on 07 4781 5930. 

Cairns

Uni v Navy
Starting in 2021, the Cairns based JCU Students competed against the Navy in a variety of sports in a one day effort in an effort to strengthen the bonds between the University and Navy communities.  The event is back in 2022 which, features mixed beach volleyball (6-a-side) at the Cairns Indoor Sports Centre. 

The event date is Wednesday August 2.

Gunyarra Cup
There are currently no programs held on the Cairns campus for beach volleyball however there is a Crossnet (4-square volleyball) event held in our Gunyarra Cup calendar which involves the JCU residential college students. 

The Crossnet event will be held over three week with the event beginning on Wednesday October 11.

Clubs

Townsville

The current affiliated club at our Townsville Campus is JCU Townsville Beach Volleyball Club.  JCU Townsville Beach Volleyball Club is open to all Beach Volleyball Players. Join in daily games at the JCU Beach Volleyball courts. They play official FIVB 2x2 Beach Volleyball rules, intermediate and advanced level. Cairns

There is currently no beach volleyball club existing on the Cairns Campus.  If you are interested in helping to start a club up on campus, please email [email protected] as well as [email protected]

JCU Representation

Each year JCU sends teams to compete at UniSport Nationals.  The UniSport Nationals provide an opportunity for students at 43 member universities from across Australia (including JCU) to compete head to head in a number of national standard sporting competitions.  UniSport Nationals is the largest multi-sporting event held in Australia every year with its flagship event Nationals Div 1 and Div 2 hosting up to 10,000 students each year. 

This year the beach volleyball event will be held from September 7 – 13 in Canberra.  The beach volleyball competition features men’s pairs, women’s pairs and mixed fours.  If you are interested in competing in the beach volleyball event, click on the following link HERE and register your interest today.
