The concept of this event first began back in 2001 as a curtain raiser to the rugby union clash British & Irish Lions clash with the Queensland Presidents XV held at Dairy Farmers Stadium.  The first men’s rugby union clash was won by JCU.

Since the inaugural game, the Uni v Army event has since expanded to include women’s rugby union in 2004, men’s basketball in 2005, women’s netball in 2010, women’s & men’s soccer in 2014 and mixed touch football in 2018.

Previously the Uni v Army event has also included women’s & men’s AFL.

The women’s rugby teams compete for the Commander’s Cup meanwhile the men’s rugby teams compete for the Chancellor’s Cup.

The event will be held once again in 2022.  The date is still to be confirmed with the event usually held around September/October.
