Sarah Hesp to take charge of the JCU Women’s Basketball Team

JCUSA Sport are happy to announce that Sarah Hesp will be player/coach for the JCU Women’s Basketball team at UniSport Nationals.

Sarah is well known in both within the basketball and university circles.  Sarah previously represented the Queensland North Side at the U18 Australian Junior Basketball Championships as well as being a former player for the Townsville Flames in the Queensland Basketball League (QBL) and academy player for the Townsville Fire.

The current JCU Student has also competed in Fisher Shield for John Flynn College, Interfaculty Sport for Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences (RESSA) and also last year represented the JCU Women’s basketball team at UniSport Nationals Div 2 where the team finished 8th

Sarah is looking forward to the opportunity at UniSport Nationals this year.

"I am very excited to be part of the JCU Nationals program for 2019".

“After being involved with the Nationals Program last year, I could see not only how competitive the competition is, but also how even the competition was.  I am hoping we can achieve big things at Div 2 including promotion to Div 1”

JCUSA Sport and Recreation Manager Teisha Condie is thrilled to have Sarah back in the women’s basketball team.

“We saw last year the leadership that she brought to the team so it made sense to have her lead the side in 2019.  Last year’s competition was very close considering that we defeated teams that finished above us as well as going down to teams by a couple of points or in overtime”.

“We have talented basketballers in both Townsville and Cairns and we believe we are going to have a strong team once again”.

The women’s basketball team will be competing at UniSport Nationals Div 2 from July 7 – July 12.

Sarah joins Campbell Yates (women’s rugby 7s), Jordan Coonan (men’s basketball), Brady Smith and Jenn Hamilton (women’s netball) and Hannah Egan (mixed touch football) as the growing list of coaches/managers for JCUSA Sport.
