JCU Picks up Silver in Volleyball at Indigenous Nationals

From the 25th-28th of June, JCU Sport sent away 11 students to compete at 2018 Indigenous Nationals (formally called the Indigenous University Games) in Macquarie Sydney.

The competition consists of students competing in touch football, netball, basketball and indoor volleyball.

The first day of competition began with touch football.  Our JCU side played very well losing only one game however they just missed out on making the finals.  The next two days consisted of netball and basketball however JCU were unable to progress past the pool rounds.

However, our indigenous side save their best performance for the last day in volleyball.  JCU started off great going through the pool games undefeated to progress through to the quarter finals.

JCU were able to defeat Monash University in straight sets before doing the same thing in the semi-finals to University of Queensland to make the Gold Medal match!

Although JCU had the support of everyone in the Gold Medal game, they were unable to grab the gold going down to the University of Melbourne in straight sets.  Despite the defeat, JCU were able to come away with their heads held high picking up silver (University of Melbourne finished overall winners and also won gold in basketball).

With their performance in volleyball, JCU jumped up the ladder to finish 12th overall.

Big congratulations to our Indigenous Nationals team on their performance!
