Applications for the 2024 JCU Sport Blues Awards are now open!
The JCU Sport Blues Awards will honour JCU students in recognition of their outstanding sporting achievements throughout 2024.
The Blues Awards originated back in the 1800s between Oxford and Cambridge universities. Students at these universities would receive a blue ribbon and then later a blue jacket when representing their university which would later become a symbol of sporting excellence. This tradition has since been adopted by various universities across Australia, United Kingdom and New Zealand and in 2021, JCU will joined the list.
Blues Awards are broken into two groups – Blue & Half Blue.
- Blue – Students who have participated at a state or national level with distinction.
- Half Blue – Students who have participated at a high level with distinction including local or state.
In addition to those awards, we will also hand out JCU Sportsperson of the Year, JCU Indigenous Sportsperson of the Year, the JCU Spirit of Sport Award, JCU Sport Small Club of the Year (under 50 members) and Club of the Year for the JCUSA Affiliated Clubs as well as Team of the Year and Coach of the Year.
Team of the Year can either be a team from a JCUSA Affiliated Club (e.g. premier league/reserve grade team) or a JCU representative team (e.g. competing at UniSport Nationals) meanwhile Coach of the Year can go to a coach of a JCU representative team, an JCUSA Affiliated Club or a JCU student who is a coach of a club/sport.
The date for the JCU Sport Blues Awards will be held in 2025 (to reflect on the year of 2024) with the date to be confirmed in the near future.
Nominations for the JCU Sport Blues Awards are now open. JCU Sport & Recreation encourage all nominations.
Nominations close Friday January 24 at 5pm.
