JCUSA Sport Secure Netball Duo for Nationals

JCUSA Sport are delighted that Jenn Hamilton and Brady Smith will both be returning to the JCU Women’s Netball team in management roles for 2019.

Both Jenn and Brady are former JCU Students who were part of JCU’s ‘Golden Generation’ that competed at Australian University Games.  Jenn previously represented JCU in 2012, 2013 and 2015.  During that time, she was part of the JCU women’s side that won silver in 2012 and bronze in 2015.  Jenn had an outstanding 2015 competition that she was named in the Green and Gold Squad. Over the past couple of years, Jenn has been coaching the women’s side in the annual Uni v Army event.  This year she will reprise her role as coach.

Jenn says she is looking forward to the challenge at UniSport Nationals this year.

"When JCUSA Sport approached us about managing the women’s netball team, we thought that it was an exciting opportunity to be involved.  We know what it takes to compete at Nationals and we will take that experience to Div 2 this year".

Jenn will also have Brady Smith alongside her to prepare the team for Div 2.  Brady was also part of those JCU Netball teams in 2012, 2013 & 2015.  Brady has extensive coaching experience including coaching the U16 Queensland Premier League Team to the finals in 2017 & 2018 and will also be coaching the U17 side in 2019.  Brady is also the current coach coordinator of the Neptunes Netball Club and coaches their Opal League side.  Alongside Jenn, the pair have also run many development clinics across the region including for the Magnetic North Steelcats.

“It is great to see how enthusiastic JCUSA Sport are about putting together a very strong team to compete at Nationals this year.  Jenn and I are looking forward to this challenge,” Brady Smith said.

JCUSA Sport and Recreation Manager Teisha Condie is looking forward to having Jenn and Brady back on board to steer the JCU Netball team at Nationals.

“I saw first-hand the commitment and organisation that both Jenn and Brady displayed when they were part of the team as student leaders and athletes, so to have them back on-board and involved with UniSport Nationals, is a huge win for JCUSA Sport.  We want to take JCU Netball back to its glory days.  We have plenty of talent within our student cohort. There are a number of JCU Students who are apart of not only the Netball Queensland Sapphire Series, but also other elite competitions including the Ruby Series North”.

The women’s netball team will be competing at UniSport Nationals Div 2 from July 7 – July 12.

Jenn and Brady add to the growing coaching list JCUSA Sport have joining Campbell Yates (women’s rugby 7s) and Jordan Coonan (men’s basketball).
