JCU Wins Gold at UniSport Nationals Div 2

Congratulations to our JCU Women's Netball side who won gold at the UniSport Nationals Div 2 competition held on the Gold Coast.

The team was made up of current JCU Students who were coached by JCU Alumni Brady Smith and Jennifer Hamilton.

JCU had a tough group to begin with as this group not only featured our Gold Medalists, but also the Silver Medalists (La Trobe University) and the Bronze Medalists (Western Sydney University).

JCU were able to finish the pool rounds with 4 wins and 1 loss to finish second in the group.  This put JCU up against Victoria University in the quarter finals.  It was a tough encounter however JCU were able to win the game with the final score 47-31.

On the final day of competition, JCU faced Deakin University in the Semi-Finals.  It was another tough encounter for our girls but they were able to come away with the victory winning the clash 49-35.  The final was against La Trobe University who JCU beat in the pool rounds.  Just like the quarter final and semi final, it was a tough but physical game however JCU were able to control the game from the beginning with the final score 42-30.

With JCU finishing in the top 2 at Div 2, the side has now been promoted to compete in the Div 1 competition held in September.

This is the third medal JCU has picked up at UniSport Nationals in the past 12 months including a silver medal in rowing from Alexander Belonogoff in the Men's Single Scull event as well as a bronze medal in Women's Rugby 7s (both medals won at 2018 UniSport Nationals Div 1).
