Interfaculty Sport is coming to JCU Cairns

JCUSA Sport & Recreation are happy to announce that Interfaculty Sport is coming to the JCU Cairns Campus.

The Interfaculty Sport program will be occurring as a one day carnival event each semester with the first Interfaculty Sport event to occur on Saturday May 14.

Students who are studying the same or similar degree will compete as one team competing against students from other faculties.

There will be four teams/faculties competing in the event:

  • Dentistry;
  • Health Sciences;
  • Engineering & Science; and
  • Law, Business, Arts, Society and Education

All four faculties will compete against each other in a variety of sports to be claimed Interfaculty Sport Champions.

JCUSA Sport and Recreation Manager Jason Conn is looking forward to Interfaculty Sport coming to the Cairns Campus.

“We are excited to have Interfaculty Sport coming to the Cairns Campus.  We have been looking to bring the program to Cairns for a while now so to be able to announce that Interfaculty Sport is happening is something we are proud of”.

“JCUSA Sport & Recreation wanted to offer the same programs across both Townsville and Cairns and Interfaculty Sport is the one of the last programs to be introduced to the Cairns-based students”.

Interfaculty Sport will also be part of the UniSport Australia MyWay Program.  The MyWay program is focused on increasing participation in sport on university campuses.

“We are glad to be partnering with UniSport Australia through the MyWay program as this program will allow participation in sport to increase on the Cairns Campus”.

A variety of sports will be played throughout the day with the schedule to be announced later this week.

“We are looking to have a variety of sports including basketball, touch football and soccer”.

Cairns Interfaculty Sport is a free program for current JCU students and is open to all JCU Students.

JCUSA Sport & Recreation encourages all students regardless of their ability to come and participate.
