Campbell Yates returns as JCU Women’s Rugby 7s Coach

JCUSA Sport are happy to announce Campbell Yates will be returning as the JCU Women’s Rugby 7s Coach for 2019.

Campbell is familiar with JCUSA Sport as he joined part of the JCU rugby 7s program in 2018 as head coach of the women’s side that won a bronze medal at UniSport Nationals Div 1.  Campbell also coached the JCU women’s side to a win over the Army last October in the annual Uni v Army clash.

Campbell is well known within the JCU Rugby Union club as he coaches the women’s side in the local Townsville Rugby Union (TDRU) competition as well as Fisher Shield program as he coached the University Hall’s women’s rugby 7s side in the 2018 Fisher Shield Rugby competition.

Campbell is excited to return and help improve on what JCU achieved last year:

"I would just like to say a big thank you to JCUSA Sport for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of the JCU rugby 7s coaching staff and team in 2019.  I know what a massive honour and privilege this position is and I am so excited to be a part of the most nationally significant university in Queensland".

JCUSA Sport and Recreation Manager Teisha Condie is pleased to have Campbell back on board.

“UniSport Nationals have transitioned from the traditional Uni games model, to elite, national quality competitions that require JCU to produce a very high standard of player on and off the field. JCUSA Sport have welcomed this change and have made some big moves to ensure professional, organised and better prepared teams are being produced from JCU.  With Campbell being just as enthusiastic about the direction we are moving, it was a no brainer to have him back on board.

“Under Campbell’s direction, the 2018 JCU Women’s 7’s team claimed a bronze medal, in what was a very tough competition. You could see how much Campbell had done with the side in such a short amount of time. With Campbell’s coaching abilities, a longer preparation time and the respect the team had while playing under him at Nationals, we are excited to see what JCU can achieve in women’s rugby 7s in 2019.”

The women’s rugby 7s side will be competing at UniSport Nationals Div 1 from September 29 – October 4.

JCUSA Sport will soon be seeking coaches for other sports that will be competed across both Nationals Div 1 and 2.
