Elections

JCU Student Association Annual Election 2025

In accordance with the provisions of the James Cook University Student Association’s Constitution and Regulations, an election was called for the following members of the Council:

• President;
• Vice-president;
• Treasurer;
• Secretary;
• Cairns Campus Officer (who must be enrolled on the Cairns Campus);
• Townsville Campus Officer (who must be enrolled on the Townsville campus);
• First Nations Officer (who must be enrolled & identifies as First Nation);
• International Officer (who must be enrolled as an international student); 
• Postgraduate Officer (who must be enrolled as a postgraduate student);
• Women’s Officer (who must be enrolled & identifies as a Woman);
• Equity & Diversity Student Officer; and
• Environmental & Sustainability Student Officer.

Nominations were called on October 5th and closed October 20th. An election was only required for the position of Equity and Diversity Student Officer, however one of the nominees withdrew prior to the scheduled dates thus avoiding the need for an election. All other positions each received one nominee or are left vacant through the lack of a nominee. 

All conditions and requirements for election in terms of the JCUSA Constitution and Regulations were checked and compliance confirmed.

The JCUSA Council is elected as follows

• President – Harrison O’Kane
• Vice-president – Muhammad Islam
• Treasurer – Zicilia Lo
• Secretary – Lu Zhang
• Cairns Campus Officer – Yanlong Yang
• Townsville Campus Officer - Vacant
• First Nations Officer – Vacant
• International Officer – Yandong Jiang
• Postgraduate Officer – Shiqi Zhu
• Women’s Officer – Vacant
• Equity & Diversity Student Officer – Maita Sherrin-Angouin
• Environmental & Sustainability Student Officer – Vacant

The new Council term commences from November 1^st and ends on October 31 respectively.

Four positions (Women’s Officer, Environment and Sustainability Officer, First Nations Officer and Townsville Campus Officer) remain vacant.
